Avot is the first blessing of the Amidah. The Avot (patriarchs/fathers or our people) and the Imot (matriarchs/Mothers of our people) are a reminder of our ancestor’s relationship to God. The traditional Amidah only includes the Avot. The Reconstructionists have added the Imot because of the Reconstructionist commitment to the equality of men and women.
