Kosher food is about to enter the final frontier- space. This July, Israel's first astronaut, Col. Ilan Ramon, will launch into space as part of a NASA research mission. Ramon has requested that he receive kosher food during his space mission, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He's the first astronaut to make such a request.

To prepare for the historic blastoff, the Israeli astronaut has been training at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston since 1998. Israel declared 2002 the "Year of Space" to highlight Ramon's accomplishment and to help Israeli kids learn more about space.
