Tu B'Shevat Poetry
Standing there mighty and tall
Changing my color in the beautiful fall
I can live for thousands of years
Seeing people’s joys and tears
I’d give of myself if I could
Producing paper, fruit, and wood
I love the world all the way through
I could be of use to someone like you
The New Year for trees is the
beginning of spring
It’s Tu B’Shevat, time to feast and sing
Stephen Kent
TU B’SHEVAT
You have to be patient
for a tree to grow.
Like my brother’s peanut plant—
every day it gets a little
Bigger,
Stronger.
And though you may not see it
in your Life-Time,
Your tree will grow
into a beautiful
Re-Source
a Celebration.
Aviva Mann
A DIFFERENT TU B’SHEVAT
Tu B’Shevat has entered our snowdappled
grounds, confused at how
green appears on its important day.
“Tu B’Shevat is here,” I say,
although now what I said rolls on my
tongue, and flies out of my mouth,
dancing on the breeze.
It winds itself through the maple
tree’s branches and rests on
a twig, naming today the day.

ON TU B’SHEVAT
I would plant
My wondrous ideas,
My insightful contributions,
My respect and gratitude,
and a place in this world.
I would plant my talent and hope,
My hopeful decisions,
My determination,
My loves and hatred,
and, of course,
My dreams and my beliefs.
