A Prophetic Power Point Presentation
By Anne Stein
One of our fourth-grade Bible teachers, Virginia
Weiskopf, brought her unit on prophets alive
by having the students prepare a Power Point

presentation on a prophet of their choice.
Working in groups of four, students picked a prophet to
present to the class. They based their research on
A Child's Bible 2: Lessons from the Prophets and Writing,
as well as reference books and graphics and sound effects
from the internet. So each group was able to include text,
sound, and visual material in its presentation.
We invited parents to watch the eight Power Point presentations
during the last week of school. Then, as families,
they played "Prophet Jeopardy" to reinforce the learning
with questions and answers about prophets such as Deborah,
Jonah, and Jeremiah. Parents were very impressed,
and the children finished the year as experts on their
prophet.
Even the most uninspired student can be turned on by using
a computer! Students with poor attendance earlier in
the year stayed after class to finish their presentations.
And many parents went out of their way to tell me how
much their child loved their Judaica class this year.
Anne Stein is Director of Education at Congregation Etz Chaim, Lombard, IL.
