Watch your Golem Plan this summer for Rediscovering the Jewish Holidays: Tradition in a Modern Voice, a rich and innovative book for 6th–8th grade that is sure to captivate your tough-to-please early teens and provide a creative antidote for adolescent skepticism.
Students will draw personal meaning from the holidays and our ancient traditions with activities such as Taking Action (make concrete plans to incorporate values such as Tzedakah and Shalom into their lives), One People, Many Customs (interesting facts about customs in different Jewish communities), and A Tradition of Innovation (the many ways our tradition continues to evolve). The final activity in each chapter asks students to reflect on what they have learned and to consider how they can contribute to our tradition.
Rediscovering the Jewish Holidays is lavishly illustrated with more than 170 full-color photographs and the midrashic art of contemporary Judaic artists.
If you're not on the Golem Plan and want to keep up to date with the latest in books for Jewish educators, call Terry Kaye at 800-221-2755.
