Meet the Interns

Each year the Behrman House internship program brings a college student to our offices, to help us
with editorial work, assist customers during our busy season, and expose college students to the work
we do. This year, we were doubly blessed, with two highly capable individuals.

SAM WEINREICH

Sam is studying Latin and Ancient Greek literature at Williams College, where he is now a sophomore. Worried that as part of his college education he should “also learn a language that isn’t dead,” he spent part of the summer in a language immersion program in France which we like to call a “French ulpan.”

Sam contributed to a number of projects this summer. Using our internal photo library of about 9,000 images and outside sources as well, he worked with Executive Editor Gila Gevirtz to select photos for the upcoming History of the Jewish People, Volume 2, which will be released in April 2007. He worked with e-Media Editor Jeremy Poisson on the design and testing of new software that will be released next year. And he had a brainstorm that we hope will become yet another software release, probably in April 2008.

SUNNY YUDKOFF

Sunny graduated in June from Harvard University with a B.A. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Her concentration was in Hebrew and Yiddish language and literature, and she was also President of Harvard Students for Israel. Currently, she is studying Yiddish literature in a Masters program at Oxford University. (A pre-requisite for this program was spending September at a one-month intensive Yiddish language course in Lithuania, where she lived in a cold-water dorm. That’s dedication!) When we asked Sunny for a quirky fact about herself for this bio, she replied, “How about taking a Jewish studies program at Christ Church? That’s pretty quirky.”

Sunny did all manner of editorial work this year—she had in fact already been a Behrman House intern after her sophomore year. Among her most important accomplishments were developing and writing features for The Explorer’s Bible, Volume 2, which will be released in April 2007, and serving as project editor for Rabbi Brad Artson’s Gift of Soul, Gift of Wisdom, which was released this past July.
