Jskyway Offers Online Hineni Course

Jskyway, a leader in online professional development for educators in Jewish schools, is currently conducting a new online course—The Art of Teaching Hineni— specially for Jewish congregational school teachers. The eight-week course, which concludes on June 15, 2006, allows Hineni teachers to study whenever and wherever they want—"classes" are open 24/7. All courses are accredited by Hebrew College and the National Board of License to be used towards continuing education units.

Taught by Jody Ann Rosenbloom, Education Director at the Jewish Community of Amherst and recipient of the Harold Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Jewish Education, The Art of Teaching Hineni includes ways to:

(1) apply different teaching methodologies to the school’s curriculum, (2) help students connect prayer with Jewish values, and (3) creatively use the books, workbooks, CDs, games, and web resources to integrate learning.

The course, based on a grant from the Schectel Foundation, is a follow-up to the pilot held a few months ago in which twenty-five educators participated. Said Jill Goldstein, a participant in the pilot, a third-grade teacher, and administrative assistant to Patti Kroll, the Director of Education at Congregation Beth Shalom, Overland Park, KS ,

"Not only did I gain a great deal of practical knowledge about how best to use the Hineni text and its resources, I was also able to read and learn from several online articles on topics such as behavior and curriculum."

Lori Riegel, fourth-grade teacher at Temple Emanu-El in Tucson, wrote: "The course was an interesting way to connect with other teachers from across the country, and exchange ideas. Although I have been teaching for 15 years, it was nice to be reminded about using anticipatory sets, integrating technology into my lessons, and teaching to the whole child. The instructor was great about responding to my posts quickly."
