Know the best way to hook students so they truly care about what they’re learning in religious school? Relate the material to their own lives. Since today’s kids are so into comic books and animation, what better way to present authentic Bible study than in the form of Manga Midrash graphic booklets! Using manga, a graphic novel format developed in Japan which has become enormously popular with pre-teens and teenagers, we present a Bible story in visual form, together with a spare and true translation of the biblical text. Then we present a rabbinic midrash relating to the story. And lastly, we ask the student to develop his or her own midrash, using either written or visual presentation. Children will learn Bible; more importantly they will learn our distinguished interpretive tradition. Currently two Manga Midrash booklets are available: Leadership—Jacob and Esau and The Value of Life— Pharaoh’s Daughter and Miriam Save Moses. |
Two Manga Midrash booklets are now available Watch for our manga web site coming in July; your students will be able to play manga games, send manga e-greeting cards, and download manga "wallpaper." We think your kids will love it! For more information about Manga Midrash, visit www.behrmanhouse.com/cat/tbgs/mangamidrash.shtml |
