Go Swimming at CAJE 33
By Terry Kaye

We’re delighted to announce that Behrman House will be represented in the “fishbowl conversations” taking place at the August CAJE conference—conversations with seven leading Jewish educational professionals.

Our own David Behrman will join Mara Braunfeld, Dr. Steven Cohen, Rabbi Ed Feinstein, Rabbi Larry Hoffman, Linda Klonsky, and Rabbi Danny Zemel in these wide-ranging free-form discussions.

“Fishbowl?” I hear you ask. “What’s a fishbowl?”

To tell you the truth, we’re not 100% sure. We know that Dr. Joel Hoffman, CAJE 33 co-chair, has assembled seven leaders in the field to talk about what we do, how we do it, and how Jewish education will probably look in the future.

The seven participants constitute three rabbis, two PhD’s, one principal, one lawyer, a change-management expert, and four graduate- school faculty members. Yes, math majors, that’s more than seven—these people all do more than one thing! They represent every aspect of congregational education and come from a wide variety of religious and institutional backgrounds.

To add a bit of high-tech to the mix, Joel has arranged for the audience (that’s us!) to contribute to the conversation by sending text messages or e-mail to a moderator. Computers will be set up around the room to make this possible.
