We are delighted to announce that Dena Neusner has joined the Behrman House editorial team. Dena comes to us with more than 16 years in children’s book publishing. After graduating with a B.A. in English from Tufts University (with honors), she went to work for Puffin Books (a division of the Penguin Group) in New York City, where she managed a beginning reader book program, and discovered a basic truth about editing books for kids—you get to fill your office with toys. She then moved into the fast‐paced world of media-related publishing at both Golden Books and Scholastic, followed by Parachute Publishing, a small company where she somehow became an expert on farm machines. She added toy tractors to her office collection. Dena has always been interested in education— from her tutoring experience in an adult literacy program, to her work on beginning reader books and workbooks, to her involvement in her own kids’ Jewish learning. She is excited to be at Behrman House, where she can immerse herself in subject matter that’s somewhat closer to home. Dena has written over 20 books for young children, and edited several hundred more including a few books about tractors. She spends a lot of time reading kids’ books for professional development, but she admits “I love them too much to call it work.” Dena lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, with her husband, two daughters, and a cranky old cat. |
