Executive Editor Gila Gevirtz Presents at New York University

Our own Gila Gevirtz, Executive Editor at Behrman House, author of Partners with God and Living as Partners with God, and co-author of Welcome to Israel!, was in exclusive company at New York University in March. One of ten women invited to participate in the joint NYU-Hadassah event "Our Voices, Our Visions: Jewish Women Create," she was joined by co-presenters Regina Resnik, star of the Metropolitan Opera; Judith Crist, film critic; Anna Kisselgoff, dance critic for The New York Times; and Irene Breslaw, assistant principal violist of the New York Philharmonic.

Over 300 participants learned how the lives and careers of these talented women have been influenced by their Judaism. Gila's topic was "Divine Inspiration: Creating Jewish Feminist Art" (yes, she's an artist too). She recalled her days as an art student who yearned to make "Jewish art" but had no idea what that might be. Today, Gila creates visual midrash by weaving Hebrew text and her own writing with graphic images. Her work is exhibited and sold widely in the United States and in Israel. We think that Regina, Judith, Anna, and the others were in pretty good company!
