Dr. Ofra Ariel Backenroth is the associate dean of the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary.  She has a B.A in Comparative Literature from Tel-Aviv University, an M.F.A in Dance Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an Ed.D in Jewish Education from William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education.  Dr. Backenroth’s interests are arts and Jewish education, Israel education, and the  teaching of Hebrew as a second language.  

  Roberta Osser Baum

Roberta began writing for Behrman House in 1984. She has written over forty books primarily teaching prayer reading skills and concepts through texts, workbooks, and teacher guides. Over the years Roberta has offered workshops in various venues introducing the Behrman House books and support materials. She has been engaged in Jewish education for over thirty years having served as Educational Director in supplemental schools throughout Orange County, New York .

  Anthea Canes

Anthea Canes has been a Jewish educator for the past 20 years. She studied Hebrew and Jewish Culture at the University of Cape Town and received her teaching credential at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesberg. She taught in Israel for 3 years. She is currently a first grade teacher  and the Dean of the Lower Elementary at Abraham Joshua Heschel West in Agoura Hills, California. She is also in the process of obtaining her Masters in Jewish Education and Administration at the American Jewish University.

Martin S. Cohen is the rabbi of the Shelter Rock Jewish Center in Roslyn, New York, and serves as chairman of the editorial board of the quarterly journal, Conservative Judaism. His latest book, The Boy on the Door on the Ox, was published by Aviv Press in November 2008.

  Rabbi William Cutter

Rabbi William Cutter has served 44 years on the faculty of Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, where he has instructed in Hebrew literature, education, and human relations.  He has served on numerous boards and committees of American Jewish life and is an active participant in a variety of educational programs in Israel. He has worked on over thirty Behrman House titles. 

  Dr. Lisa D. Grant

Lisa D. Grant is Associate Professor of Jewish Education at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, New York school.  Her research and teaching focus on adult Jewish learning, professional development of Jewish educators, and the place of Israel in American Jewish life. Her publications have appeared in a range of academic journals and teaching guides. She currently is co-editor of an International Handbook of Jewish Education with Helena Miller and Alex Pomson.  Lisa has a B.A. from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary

Sarah Gluck is Education Co-Director and Director of Hebrew Education at Temple Beth-El, Hillsborough, New Jersey. Her special interest is in developing programs and curricular materials that help families engage more fully in Jewish living through Hebrew. Sarah has a B.A. in Middle East Studies, Oberlin College, 1978 and M.A. and M.Phil., Arabic Language and Middle East Studies, Columbia University, 1982 and 1984. She completed a one-Year Program at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 1977 and lived in Haifa from 1986-91.

  Dina Maiben

Dina Maiben has served as Director of Religious Education at Temple Shaari Emeth in Manalapan, NJ, since 1989. She has published extensively for both adults and children. Nationally recognized for her work in the area of Hebrew reading instruction, she is co-author of Z’man Likro (Time to Read Hebrew) and the Z’man L’Tefilah (Time for Prayer) series, and author of Alef Bet Quest as well as numerous journal articles on all aspects of the field. She is co-author of Abraham’s Great Discovery and How Tzipi the Bird Got Her Wings, and authored the teacher guide for Volume 1 of The Explorer’s Bible. Dina serves on the editorial board of the Jewish Education News, and chairs Monmouth County's Commission on Jewish Education.

  Pearl Tarnor

Pearl Tarnor has been associated with Behrman House since 1978. She authored and co-authored many Behrman House textbooks including The New Siddur Program for Hebrew and Heritage, Shalom Alef Bet, Shalom Uvrachah, and Let's Talk: Modern Hebrew for Teens.

Dr. Zierler is Associate Professor of Feminist Studies and Modern Jewish Literature at Hebrew Union College--The Jewish Institute of Religion. Prior to joining HUC-JIR she was a Research Fellow in the English Department of Hong Kong University where she lived for five and a half years while teaching at the University.
