The Jewish Lens

"Imagine a moment frozen in time - the result of which leads to great potential in visual learning, intellectual and emotional stimulation, and development of analytical skills. Through the universal medium of photography, The Jewish Lens provides the next generation of Jews with an entry point to Jewish learning, skills development, and an opportunity to share their voice - their lens - with others." —The Jewish Lens

Behrman House has partnered with The Jewish Lens and is pleased to bring you 3 lessons from The Jewish Lens Curriculum that have been especially adapted for the Behrman House Online Learning Center. Enclosed in this unit you will find three lessons:

  • What's A Photograph For?
  • Interpreting the Second Commandment
  • Discovering Jewish themes in the photographs of world renowned photographer Zion Ozeri.

Each lesson is designed as a 50 minute class sessions, and two of the lessons include suggestions for lesson extenders, potentially giving you 5-6 sessions.

Included in the mini-unit are seven worksheets that resemble a Talmud page. Instead of a Talmud text in the center of each worksheet, a photograph is inserted, and students comment about themes from Jewish history, Jewish values, or cultural trends they discover in each photo.
