Educator Resources to Get You Started on Fall Planning

When it comes to teaching Hebrew, you’ve got lots of choices. Which approach you choose depends on your goals for Hebrew.

For students who can already decode, the Hineni prayer series has been the long-time favorite way to guide students use their improving Hebrew skills to learn both prayers and their meaning.  In addition to preparing students to practice liturgy and integrate into your community’s services, Hineni emphasizes the roots of the Hebrew words. Beginning to understand the role of root letters in the Hebrew language also sets the stage for broader Hebrew learning.

The Hineni series comes in multiple formats, including individual prayer booklets that can be used both for groups or independent self-paced learning. With this format, you can choose just the prayers and blessings you want to teach, in the order you want. Each prayer is presented in its own 8- or 12-page booklet.

Adath Emanu-El in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, recently been using the Hineni Prayer Booklet series in its religious school. Students keep the packets at the synagogue so they don’t get lost, says Rabbi Monica Kleinman, the school's director. “They’re really great. It makes running class smoother and cuts down on distractions.”

The school has also been using the digital companion to the prayer booklets, the Hineni OLC Modular Edition. “Our teachers love it,” says Kleinman.

Compatible with all phones and tablets, Hineni OLC Edition offers up to seven themed modules that use online games and exercises to enhance in-class learning:

Each module comes with a digital license and one copy of each Hineni Prayer Booklet needed to cover all the prayers in that module.
