New Storybooks to Delight Young Learners and Dreamers

Avi the Ambulance dreams of being a life-saving ambulance just like his parents and big sister. In the new book Avi the Ambulance to the Rescue, the second in the Avi the Ambulance series, he gets his chance to help in a most unexpected way. His mom, the command car, has assigned him and his medic to restock supplies. On the way to delivering them, there is an emergency, and it’s Avi to the rescue!

Storybooks offer a great way to activate children’s imaginations. Reading stories aloud provides a shared experience that can elicit emotional responses such as laughter, sadness, empathy, and anticipation, all of which encourage social and emotional development. With beautiful illustrations, Avi the Ambulance to the Rescue provides a gentle way to introduce young children to emergency care while showing them a slice of Israeli life.

The book includes an author's note about the Jewish values of caring for animals, Tza'ar Baalei Chaim, and helping the injured, P'ikuach Nefesh, as well as a photo spread of emergency vehicles of the Magen David Adom, Israel's ambulance, blood services, and disaster-relief organization.

The Avi the Ambulance series highlights the life-saving work of MDA. In the first book of the series, Avi the Ambulance Goes to School, we meet Avi as he learns all sorts of important skills from the ambulance teacher at school: How to zig-and-zag, zoom-and-stop, and of course how to treat patients well and drive gently.
