Mishloah Manot Movie Mania

Mishloah manot are gifts of food or drink delivered to friends, neighbors, teachers, and relatives on Purim day. Each mishloah manot basket should contain at least two different food items (or drink). Have fun while fulfilling the mitzvah of mishloah manot by assembling mishloah manot packages based on your favorite flicks. Here are some ideas to get you started. Note: All food items are available kosher.

 

MOVIE: Meet the Robinsons
BASKET CONTENTS:
Chocolate frogs: Franny Robinson trains frogs to sing.
Goobers: Lewis’ friend from the orphanage is named Michael “Goob” Yagoobian.
Peanut butter and jelly: Lewis invents a machine to spread peanut butter and jelly evenly.
Yellow-haired troll: This item is reminiscent of Lewis’ unique hairdo.

 

MOVIE: Pirates of the Caribbean
BASKET CONTENTS:
Cracker Jack (or jacks): This item shares its name with Captain Jack Sparrow.
Chocolate gold coins: Barbarossa and his crew steal cursed Aztec gold.
Jelly fish: These items represent Davy Jones and his fishlike crew.
Rum balls: The pirates regularly enjoy drinking rum.
Pirate's Booty: The pirates spend their lives seeking treasures.

 

MOVIE: Enchanted
BASKET CONTENTS:
Chocolate kiss: Giselle and Prince Edward sing about “True Love’s Kiss.”
Apple: Queen Narissa tries to poison Giselle with an apple.
5th Avenue bar: Giselle is sent to New York City, for which 5th Avenue is famous.
Candy balls: The characters attend the King and Queen’s ball.
U-No Bar: While in Central Park Giselle sings, “That’s How You Know.”

 

MOVIE: Happy Feet
BASKET CONTENTS:
Harmony bar: The penguins like to sing and harmonize songs together.
Fruit by the Foot: This item recalls the movie title, Happy “Feet.”
Black and white cookies: The penguins’ colors are black and white.
Candy eggs: The penguins lay eggs and keep them warm during the cold winter.
Sno-Caps: This item is reminiscent of the penguins’ frosty home.

 

MOVIE: Night at the Museum
BASKET CONTENTS:
Gum: The Easter Island Head asks Larry, a.k.a. “Dum-dum,” to give him “gum-gum.”
Atomic Fireballs: The cavemen are on a quest for fire.
Cookie shaped like a bone: The dinosaur and Larry play fetch with a bone.
Whipped cream (with a label on it that says “Fire Extinguisher”): After their quest for fire gets out of hand, the cavemen eat up the fire extinguisher foam.
Dinosour candy: The dinosaur gives Larry a run for his money.

 

MOVIE: SpongeBob
BASKET CONTENTS:
Pineapple: SpongeBob lives in a pineapple at the bottom of the ocean.
Chocolate shells and chocolate starfish: They represent SpongeBob’s undersea pals, including his pet snail, Gary, and starfish buddy Patrick. Bubbles (and bubble pipe and wand): SpongeBob loves to blow bubbles under the sea.
Goobers: SpongeBob and Patrick frequent Goofy Goober’s ice cream shop and love to sing the “Goofy Goober Song.”
Gummy Fish: SpongeBob’s underwater community is home to many colorful fish.

 

MOVIE: Holes
BASKET CONTENTS:
Swiss cheese: It's cheese with “holes.”
Sunflower Seeds: When Magnet steals a sack of sunflower seeds from Mr. Sir, Stanley gets caught with the seeds and taken to the Warden’s office.
Peach Nectar: Miss Katherine was famous for making the best spiced peaches in Green Lake. Stanley and Zero find jars of her peaches years later; by then the peaches have turned into a sweet nectar that Zero names “Sploosh.”
Onion: Stanley and Zero survive their journey through Green Lake by eating wild onions. In the old days of Green Lake, Sam sold onions from a cart on Main Street.
Zero bar: This candy bar--a combination of caramel, peanut, and almond nougat covered in white fudge—shares its name with one of the main characters in Holes.

 

MOVIE: Harry Potter
BASKET CONTENTS:
Charms Blow Pops: The Charms Blow Pops represent the many magical charms Harry Potter and the other Hogwarts students invoke.
Jelly Beans: A favorite with the Hogwarts students, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Bean feature every flavor—from chocolate and peppermint to liver and sardine.
Chocolate Frogs: Harry and Ron enjoy a snack of chocolate frogs on their first train trip to Hogwarts. Each frog comes with a collectible wizard or witch card.
Polyjuice Potion: For our mishloah manot package, this grape juice bottle has been transformed into “Polyjuice Potion,” which temporarily transforms a person into the physical form of another person.
Tea Leaves: Harry, Hermione, and Ron learn to read tea leaves in Professor Trelawney’s Divination class.

 

MOVIE: Shrek
BASKET CONTENTS:
Onion: As Shrek says, “Ogres are like onions…. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers.”
Muffin: “Do you know…the muffin man,” the Gingerbread Man asks Lord Farquaad in Shrek.
Gingerbread Man: In Shrek 2, Gingy comes to the Shrek and Donkey’s rescue.
Happily Ever After Potion: This grape juice bottle has been labeled as “Happily Ever After Potion,” the potion that turns Shrek into a handsome man and Fiona back into a beautiful princess.
Hershey's Kiss: Princess Fiona is cursed by a spell that can be broken only with love’s first kiss.

 

MOVIE: Spider-Man
BASKET CONTENTS:
Bugles: Peter Parker’s exclusive photos of Spider-Man appear in The Daily Bugle.
Silly String: This silly string represents spider-web strands.
Uncle Ben’s Rice: As Peter’s Uncle Ben says, “With great power comes great responsibility.” And great rice?
Blue and Red Cookie: This red-and-blue cookie features Spider-Man’s signature colors.
Mary Jane candies: Mary Jane Watson—also simply known as M.J.—is the girl next door to Peter Parker.
