Food writers are trying the recipes, bouncing to the upbeat tunes, and giving Get Cooking! a thumbs up for family fun with Jewish flavor.

"I cannot wait to get my hands on this cookbook," wrote Heather Lutz-Silver after trying the recipe for Noodle Kugel. Read her review and more, including Celebrity Parents Magazine and NJ Jewish News right here.

Fans in New Jersey and metro New York can join the fun this weekend when Mama Doni & the Mama Doni Band will be cooking up a musical storm at the launch party for Get Cooking! A Jewish American Cookbook and Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 14 at the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, Ross Family Campus of the JCC Metrowest in West Orange, NJ, sponsored by Streit's Matzos.

The centerpiece of the festivities on October 14 will be a full-length, rocking concert, featuring an array of songs from the 29-track Mama Doni CD that is included with Get Cooking! A Jewish American Cookbook and Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration. A book signing, cooking demo, giveaways, and a host of surprises will round out the afternoon.

Food writer and cooking teacher Rachel Harkham ("Recipe Rachel"), co-author of  Get Cooking! A Jewish American Cookbook and Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration, will be on hand to demonstrate how to make an edible craft: chocolate dreidles! There'll be free samples of Matzo Crunch Bars, made according to a Get Cooking! A Jewish American Cookbook and Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration recipe, and Streit's will give away matzo ball mix to all, so that everyone can make Mama Doni's and Recipe Rachel's delectable Garlic and Chive Matzo Balls at home after the show.

From Rosh Hashanah to Thanksgiving, Chanukah to Fourth of July, the Jewish American calendar is overflowing with chances to celebrate, savor good food, and get down and party with family and friends. Get Cooking! A Jewish American Cookbook and Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration takes readers through a year of holidays with fun, "menschy" activities for every season and recipes that give American cuisine a Jewish twist, such as "Sweet Potato Knish" for Thanksgiving and "Judah Mac 'n' Chees Squares," "Fill-in-the-Blank Latkes," and "KFC: Kosher Fried Chicken" for Chanukah.

Mama Doni's Get Cooking! show will highlight songs for the upcoming holiday season and beyond, with songs for Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and more, including a brand new, New Orleans inspired Get Cooking! song, all about living out loud, deliciously. Kids and families should come prepared to groove to a Turkey in the Straw hoedown for Thanksgiving, celebrate Chanukah with songs like "Latke Man" and "A Land Called Sufganiyot," look ahead to Purim and boogie to the Hamantaschen Dance, and of course join the famous Challah Day conga line!

Doni Zasloff Thomas, a.k.a. Rachel Harkham, a.k.a. Recipe Rachel, is a food writer, cooking teacher, chocolatier, and a mom. The recipes in Get Cooking! include her modern American reinterpretations of classic dishes, sure-fire kidpleasers, and New Jewish Cuisine with a worldly spin to please all sorts of palates.
