How to blog

Do you blog? Until recently, I had no interest in blogging. But, now that I’ve started, I’ll admit that I enjoy having a platform to share my ideas and resources with others. More people are jumping on the blogging bandwagon every day. It gives everyone the chance to be heard—regardless of popularity or fame. Bloggers come in all shapes and sizes, and in all age groups. There are even websites that feature monitoring and exclusivity, making blogging accessible for children. This article from mashable.com gives five steps for helping to choose an appropriate blogging platform for your students.

Once you’ve picked a blogging platform, you can choose a topic and have students write a weekly blog. One topic that can span the year is discussing the weekly parashah. In an earlier post, I told you about www.g-dcast.com which provides weekly video commentary. There are several other sites that offer video or audio podcasts about the Torah portion. I found a site called www.challahcrumbs.com that has a section called Torah Study, dedicated to the weekly parashah. They offer commentary, activities, and discussion questions to help explain the weekly portion.  You can use these (and other) sites to start a discussion in class and then encourage your students write a weekly blog with their own explanations or commentary. By the end of the year, they’ll have a rich blog filled with Jewish content that they created.

What blogs do you write or read? I’d love to know about them. Send me an email and they might be featured on a future post.
