The Leadership Institute Wants YOU!

Dr. Evie Rotstein, Project Director of the Leadership Institute for Congregational School Educators, and Dena Kahn, Program Associate, are pleased to announce that UJA- Federation of New York has awarded $1.9 million to the Leadership Institute- $50,000 per educator!- to develop "leadership capacity, pedagogic skills, and Judaic knowledge" in their second cohort of educators from Reform, Reconstructionist, and Conservative congregational schools in the New York metropolitan area.  Applications are now open for the two and one-half year program beginning in February 2008.

The Leadership Institute for Congregational School Educators (LICSE), a collaboration of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JTS) and the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York, works to further the professional skills and Judaic knowledge of congregational school educators.  Over two and one-half years, participants complete two intensive ten-day summer seminars; a ten-day seminar in Israel; various skill-building symposia; and a site visits to successful congregational schools.  In addition, participants work under the guidance of a personal mentor, fulfill the requirments of an approved Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and undertake a funded Action Research Project (ARP) in their school.  Participants will receive a $1,500 stipend to pursue the ILP and additional funding up to $2,000 for the ARP.

You can find the application and more information on the Leadership Institute's website, www.leader-institute.org, or you can get a hard copy by contacting Evie or Dena directly at 212-824-2299, dkahn@huc.edu, or erotstein@huc.edu.

it’s great to see that kind of engagement—and a bit disconcerted. After all, one expects participants to be paying attention, just as we want our students to pay attention in class. HUAWEI MediaPad JXD S601

This is a great project and is wonderful to hear that there will be outstanding financial support for leadership training that will most certainly improve the caliber of Jewish education.

What about Jewish educators who work outside of metropolitan NYC?
